How does confectionery sunflower differ from oilseed?

Oilseed varieties usually have small, black, thin-hulled seeds and are bred for oil extraction. Confectionery sunflower, by contrast, has larger seeds with a thicker, often striped hull from which the kernel separates easily. Its value depends above all on how the seed looks and eats in the consumer market.

Market quality traits

In Iran's nut and dried fruit market, seed size and uniformity, hull colour and pattern, kernel fill and kernel-to-hull ratio are among the most important pricing criteria. Small or uneven seeds usually sell for less, even when field yield is high. Hybrid choice should therefore match the target market's preferences from the outset.

Agronomic traits

Alongside seed quality, farmers need a hybrid with high yield potential, full head fill and good tolerance of heat, water shortage and disease. Fit with each region's growing season and sowing date is also decisive for stable yields.

Why field evaluation matters

A hybrid's catalogue performance is not necessarily what it delivers in an Iranian field. Anariss evaluates the latest international hybrids in demonstration fields under real growing conditions and introduces only those that perform well both in the field and in the market.
