New hybrids on show
Several confectionery sunflower hybrids grown in the demonstration field over the season were presented to farmers, farming contractors and nut traders. Visitors looked closely at head development, seed size and field uniformity.
Hearing from the market
Having nut buyers alongside farmers meant the market's quality criteria, such as hull colour and pattern and kernel fill, could be raised directly and taken into account when choosing varieties for the coming season.
