Designing the trial plots

Working with progressive farmers, Anariss has set up sugar beet variety trial plots in regions suited to autumn sowing. The new varieties are grown alongside the region's common varieties so they can be compared under the same conditions.

What is being measured

Through the season, bolting rate, plant establishment and disease tolerance are recorded, and at harvest, root tonnage and sugar content will be measured for each variety. Results are also shared with partner sugar factories.

Next steps

Varieties that perform well in this evaluation will be introduced to farmers in larger demonstration fields once legal registration is complete.
